Discover Valmalenco on a Hut-to-Hut Trek
One day at a time, carrying only a daypack, venture through the mountains of Valmalenco — from alpine meadows and lakes to glaciers and peaks.
Sleep and dine in cosy alpine mountain huts, and experience a variety of panoramas from first light to the last rays of the sun.
Learn about the region’s history, culture and nature. With a bit of luck, spot the occasional ibex, marmots or eagles in the sky.
Popular Itinerary: 6 days, 6 nights
Day 0: Arrival and Welcome
Arrive in the Valmalenco Valley. We will meet you in the early evening to ensure you have everything you need for the trek. Optionally, we can arrange for your transfer from a major airport or train station.
Night: Family-run B&B or a hotel.
Day 1: Warm-up Hike and Local Culture
We head out for a warm-up hike to visit charming alpeggi — mountain settlements with typical stone houses. We will either bring a packed lunch or stop for local dishes at one of the lovely rifugi (mountain huts).
Night: Overnight at the same accommodation.
Day 2-5: High Mountain Trekking Adventure
On Day 2, we depart for a five-day, high mountain trekking adventure through the scenic Valmalenco. Each day will lead us to distinctively different corners, offering diverse panoramas and opportunities to learn about the local culture, geology, vegetation, and wildlife.
Nights: Various cosy rifugi (mountain huts), including half-board (breakfast and dinner).
Day 6: Final Day and Departure
Today marks the final day of our trek, offering two options:
- Full Hiking Day: Enjoy more scenery with a full day of hiking, returning to civilization in time for a shower and rest before going out for dinner.
- Early Departure Option: Take a shorter route to arrive in the village by 1-2pm, allowing you ample time to travel to Milan or other destinations (by car or train).
Night Add-on (Optional): If you wish to stay overnight in Valmalenco, we can arrange your accommodation.
Ideas to Personalize Your Adventure
Extend Your Hike or Customize the Difficulty
Extend your mountain trek by a day or two if your vacation time permits—there is always more to see in Valmalenco.
Let us know during the planning or booking process if you would like us to make the route less or more challenging, depending on your fitness level.
Culinary farm experience
Visit an agritourismo (mountain farm) and experience a variety of local dishes made from home-grown ingredients. Wine and liquor tasting is part of it too.
Culture and history
Add a relaxing day for culture and history after your mountain adventure. We can finalize an itinerary once you here – visit a medieval castle or a palace, stroll through very unique terraced vineyards and visit old town parts in Sondrio, Tirano or Bormio.
A day in Switzerland
Visit the famed Saint Moritz and enjoy the scenic drive over a high Bernina Pass. A short hike/walk is optional.
