  • Level 3-4?

  • 1-2 clients per guide

  • See below for ideas to extend this adventure

Pizzo Tremoggia (3441m) is probably the most interesting mountain you will ever climb due its incredible geology where rock changes color every step of the way. This ascent is for people looking for an intimate and out of the path adventure, you will not meet anyone on the entire day.

The mountain is uniquely identified by its cap of white limestone formed millions of year ago at the bottom of the sea. While much of the surrounding Bernina Massif is composed of igneous or metamorphic rocks, Tremoggia is a geology masterpiece of white sedimentary rock formations.

Pizzo Tremoggia is located on the border between Valmalenco and Val di Fex (Switzerland)

Normal Route

This ascent presents a beautiful ridge climb on a variety types of rock. This climb requires previous mountaineering or climbing experience but you don’t need to be an expert.

The summit day tests a variety of skills — from moderate rock climbing to glacier travel — offering a complete mountaineering adventure

Day 1

The journey starts from the village of Chiareggio (1612m) following a hiking trail that passes through a beautiful meadow at a high altitude plateau approaching the rifugio where we stay for the night. Rifugio Longoni offers a fantastic lookout of west part of Valmalenco.

Night: Rifugio Longoni (2450m)

Day 2

The summit day requires an early start. We will walk to Passo Tremoggia with headlight, enjoying the sunrise while gaining some elevation.

From the pass the rock climbing begins, not always on solid rock, making it a great balancing exercise while following the best rock on the ridge.

On the ridge we will climb over sections of different rock — grey, black, white, beige.

On the summit, after nice lunch, we will put on crampons as the top half of the decent is on a glacier. We still have long way to go before reaching the village.

We had fantastic time in Valmalenco! It’s clear that you guys love your valley and know it from the old little villages to the highest peaks. Thanks for organizing everything and your patience when guiding. We are coming back :)

Thank you for your guiding and teaching once again. We had great times exploring your mountains with you! While not as wild as Canada, it’s Europe after all, we really liked that Valmalenco is more rustic than Switzerland or Dolomites. Looking forward to see you for another adventure somewhere!

We hired Stano to plan out and guide us on a travel-trekking trip in Patagonia. While he has not been there before, we had a very smooth and fun trip all around! We trekked 6 days in Torres del Paine Park in Chile and 3 days under Fitzroy in Argentina. Fabulous experience!

Viki V., Vancouver, Canada

With my two daughters, over four winters, we have had magical experiences being guided and coached by Stefano in Valmalenco. His flexibility to deal with a beginner snowboarder to very experienced skier is exceptional. He is a friendly guide, true leader and a fantastic instructor!

Garfield K., United Kingdom

I have been on a couple of adventurous trips with my friends guided by Stano. We don’t like to have every detail planned for our vacation as we appreciate getting into some trouble… it’s just more authentic and fun :) We have hiked together in the Dolomites and Valmalenco, and have travelled in Canada and around the Italian island of Sardinia.
