Ferrata Torrione Porro – with a mountain guide
The Via Ferrata del Torrione Porro in Valmalenco is widely considered the perfect starting point for beginners. It offers a spectacular introduction to the mountains, with breathtaking panoramas that fully reward every bit of effort.
If you are new to mountaineering or planning to tackle more exposed routes in the future, this ferrata is an excellent way to experience the high-alpine environment. However, while the route is protected by steel cables, the exposure and physical demands can still be significant.
During our ascent, we will teach you how to correctly use your equipment and the essential skills on how to move safely and efficiently on a via ferrata.
Ferrata del Torrione Porro
Torrione Porro (2435m) rises above the village of Chiareggio in upper Valmalenco, offering a spectacular panoramic view of the Ventina Glacier and the majestic Monte Disgrazia Group. The ferrata itself is of moderate technical difficulty, thanks to its abundant and well-placed equipment. With numerous metal rungs and steps along the 200m vertical climb, the need for technical rock climbing is minimized, making it highly accessible even to those with moderate hiking experience.
Our journey begins in the village of Chiareggio (1612m). We follow a scenic trail that crosses the river and rises through the forest to the beautiful glacial basin where Rifugio Ventina (1960m) is located. The approach hike takes approximately 1.5 hours and is often more physically demanding than the ferrata itself.
The start of the route is located just above the hut. From the top of Torrione Porro we will be descending along the well marked trail.
In total, the round trip from Chiareggio back to the village takes about 6 hours.
